Important Warnings

Please note

⚠️

You can get NHIS exemption if you keep Japan health insurance.

If you keep Japan health insurance, you can apply for NHIS exemption. But Korean NHIS gives good coverage for the fee, so most people join NHIS and cancel Japan insurance.

⚠️

Pension totalization needs a separate application.

Totalization isn’t automatic. After returning, apply at the Japan pension office (年金事務所) with Korean contribution records.
