China D-2 Student Health Insurance Guide
Health insurance discounts, school plans, and insurance changes for D-2 students from China studying in Korea, including after visa switch.
When and what to do?
Admission & Arrival
Get your university acceptance letter and enter with a D-2 visa.
Alien Registration
Within 14 days after arrivalGet your alien registration card within 14 days after arrival.
Mandatory Health Insurance
Enroll as a local subscriber right after arrival. 50% discount is applied automatically.
Check School Group Insurance
Check if your university offers a group insurance.
When switching visa after graduation
If you switch to D-10 (job seeking) or E-7 (employment), your insurance type may change.
When returning home
The Korea-China Social Security Agreement (since 2013) allows pension refunds when you return.
How much do you pay?
Students get 50% discount automatically. You pay the full amount yourself.

D-2 students get a 50% discount on the insurance fee.
Pension refund possible
Thanks to the Korea-China Social Security Agreement (since 2013), you can get a pension refund when you return.
Tax treaty applied
The Korea-China tax treaty prevents double taxation.
School Group Insurance
Many universities offer group insurance. It's extra coverage beyond NHIS.
Please note
Late insurance payment can hurt visa renewal
If you’re behind on insurance for 3+ months, visa renewal may be a problem.
Change insurance when you switch visa after graduation.
If your visa changes (e.g., D-2 → E-7), insurance type (regional → employer) may change. Check with NHIS when you switch.
Medical indemnity Tier C
D-2 gets Tier C medical indemnity. Available products are limited.
