Check/pay insurance premiums, apply for refunds, and view health checkup results with the The건강보험 (official NHIS app) (official NHIS app) app. Korean only. If the app does not work, call NHIS Wonju Headquarters in English.

Download

Install the app and log in

Search for "The건강보험 (official NHIS app) (official NHIS app)" in the App Store or Google Play. Foreigners can also download it.

💡 Prepare the payment confirmation before extending your visa

Before extending your visa, get the payment confirmation in advance. If the app does not work, you can get it right away at an NHIS branch.

PASS verification —

A Korean mobile carrier under your own name is required

KakaoTalk verification —

You need a mobile carrier account and a Korean bank account under your own name.

공동인증서 —

Issued by a bank

Things to watch out for when setting up as a foreigner:
→ Please enter your foreigner registration number instead of your Resident registration number

→ A Korean mobile phone number under your own name is required (data-only eSIM is not allowed)

→ Most common reason for failure: English name spelling does not match between your mobile carrier, bank, and Alien Registration Card (ARC)

→ Please make sure your name matches exactly

Language: Korean only. There is no English support.

Key features

Just know this: 5 key features

These are the 5 features foreigners use the most.

1. Check/Pay Insurance Premiums
→ 민원여기요 > Check/Pay Insurance Premiums

→ Check this month's premium and whether there is any unpaid amount

→ You can pay right away in the app

2. Check/apply for refund money
→ Main screen "Check/apply for refund money"

→ Check if there is an Out-of-Pocket Cap refund money

→ If you register your bank account, the money will be deposited within 1~3 days

3. Issue payment confirmation
→ 민원여기요 > Issue certificates

→ This is a document needed when extending your visa

→ Right after issue, fax sending is also available

4. Check health screening results
→ HealthMoa > Health screening results

→ You can also check whether you are eligible

5. Check treatment history
→ 민원여기요 > View details of treatment received

→ Check treatment records for the last 12 months

💡 Don’t miss your refund

Many foreigners miss the Out-of-Pocket Cap refund because they do not know about it. You can check it on the app or by phone (National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)).

Payment method

There are many ways to pay your insurance premium, not just the app.

If it's hard to log in to the app, you can pay in another way.

Automatic payment (most recommended):
→ Call NHIS Wonju Headquarters to set it up

→ Pay automatically every month with a bank account or credit card

→ Once you set it up, you're done!

KakaoPay:
→ Scan the bill QR code and pay

Convenience store:
→ GS25, 7-ELEVEN, CU, MINI STOP

→ You just need to show the bill barcode

Internet banking:
→ Transfer to the NHIS account number

Internet Giro bill payment slip:
→ Pay at giro.or.kr (giro.or.kr에서)

Visit an NHIS branch:
→ Pay with Alien Registration Card (ARC) + card/cash

💡 Automatic payment is the best.

If you call NHIS Wonju Headquarters and set it up, it will be paid automatically every month even without the app. No need to worry about unpaid bills.

When the app doesn’t work

If the app doesn’t work, do this.

Honestly, even Koreans find this app inconvenient (rating 2.2). If you are a foreigner, it may be even harder.

If you can’t log in:
→ Check if the English name on your mobile carrier/bank/Alien Registration Card (ARC) matches exactly

→ If PASS verification does not work, get a 공동인증서 from your bank

→ If it still does not work, visit an NHIS branch (bring your Alien Registration Card (ARC))

When you need English:
→ Phone: NHIS Wonju Headquarters (1 for English, 2 for Chinese, 3 for Vietnamese, 4 for Uzbek)

→ Or: National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) → 7 for foreign language counseling

→ Or: Financial Services Commission Foreign Worker Support Center (15 languages)

→ Weekdays 09:00~18:00

Other useful apps:
→ Mobile Health Insurance Card — verify your identity at the hospital with a QR code

→ Health e-Eum (HIRA) — check medical treatment information

→ Silson24 (app for Medical expense reimbursement insurance (silson insurance) claims) — makes Medical expense reimbursement insurance (silson insurance) claims easier (not sure if foreigner support is available)

📝 Screenshots are blocked

Due to the security policy, screenshots do not work in the app. It is hard to capture the screen with a translation app, so please use phone counseling.
