Your company didn’t enroll you in insurance?
They took insurance premiums out of your salary, but you have no insurance? Your boss is doing something illegal.
If your pay statement has a 'health insurance' deduction but you do not have insurance eligibility, it means the company did not report it. If you report it to NHIS, it will be processed as retroactive enrollment.
This really happens.
On the payslip, there is a deduction for "health insurance". 100,000 KRW is deducted every month.
But when I went to the hospital, they said, "You are not eligible for insurance."
What happened is this. The company deducted the insurance premium from your salary, but it did not actually report it to the NHIS. This is illegal!
The payslip showing the insurance premium deduction details is the most important proof. Take a photo of it every month!
How to check if I’m enrolled
There are 3 ways. Try it right now.
1️⃣ Install the The건강보험 (official NHIS app) (official NHIS app) app → "Check eligibility"
2️⃣ Call: National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) (press 7 for English). For Chinese, Vietnamese, and Uzbek, please call NHIS Wonju Headquarters (1 for English, 2 for Chinese, 3 for Vietnamese, 4 for Uzbek). If you prepare your Alien Registration number, you can check faster.
3️⃣ Visit a nearby NHIS branch → Please bring your ARC
If it does not appear as "Workplace subscriber", go to the next step.
Within one month after starting work, make sure to check in the The건강보험 (official NHIS app) (official NHIS app) app whether you appear as a "Workplace subscriber." The sooner, the better.
The company has a duty to enroll you.
It is set by law.
“I’ll get insurance later because I’m a trainee” — that’s not true. It’s required from the first day!
What should I do?
Take a photo of the NHI-covered service (geupyeo) statement and keep it (proof!)
Call NHIS:
National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)
Please file a report for "unreported workplace".
NHIS will investigate and process your retroactive enrollment for you.
The company may get a fine of up to 5,000,000 KRW.
National Pension Service (NPS) 😰 "What if the company retaliates?"
You are protected by law. If they retaliate, report it to the Ministry of Employment and Labor at 1350. 1350 offers counseling in English and Chinese. For other languages, please call National Pension Service (NPS) (16 languages: Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Mongolian, etc.).
What you can do before reporting:
1️⃣ Ask the company in writing (use a method that leaves a record, like KakaoTalk or email)
2️⃣ Keep photos of your pay slip and employment contract (evidence)
3️⃣ If they still do not enroll you after your written request → report it to NHIS National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)
