MICE Fast-Track “Companion” legal scope
Companions aren’t just spouses. From Apr 2 2026, support staff can also be companions, up to 2 people.
According to the Ministry of Justice, a “staff” is someone employed by the key participant or confirmed by the conference organizer’s official letter. Personal assistants, interpreters, security guards can count.
Key participants are ≤5% of all attendees (speakers, executives, etc.)
Applies only to MICE events with 300+ foreign attendees.
Each key participant can bring up to 2 companions on the fast-track.
Spouse vs Staff: eligibility at a glance
Tap “Am I eligible?” to see each type’s conditions.
Spouse companion: required docs & steps
‘If we’re married, it should be automatic, right?’ Right, but you need paperwork. Passport alone can’t prove marriage.
For a spouse companion you need two things: the passport of the key participant and companion, and an English marriage certificate or notarized English family register. Get it from the foreign embassy or your home government.
Partners without legal marriage aren’t counted as companions under current rules.
We’ll update if the criteria change.
Tip: English translation & notarization of marriage certificate takes 1–2 weeks. Prepare before your trip.
Staff/assistant companion: required docs & steps
‘Can a secretary be counted as staff?’ Yes, but you must have proof of employment.
For a staff companion you need either an employment contract or an official letter from the conference organizer. One of the two is enough.
Freelancers without a contract aren’t automatically accepted.
In that case you must have an organizer’s letter. On-site individual case judgment applies.
Before departure, ask the organizer for a ‘staff companion confirmation letter’.
Tip: Ask the organizer to list the staff’s name, passport number, and role (interpreter/assistant, etc.) in the letter.
Spouse + 2 staff combo: is it possible?
You can bring one spouse and one staff. The 2-person limit counts total, regardless of type.
Possible combos: spouse + staff (1 + 1) works, or two staff works. But you can’t exceed 2 companions per key participant.
If you have 3+ companions, you can’t use the fast-track lane.
Extra companions are sent to the regular immigration lane.
Regular vs Fast-Track: real difference
‘How fast is it?’ Compared using Incheon Airport peak-season data.
Pre-apply vs on-site: how to prepare?
‘Can’t we apply online?’ Unfortunately there’s no individual pre-application window yet. But if you’re prepared, you won’t hit a wall on site.
State your intent to use companion fast-track when registering.
If you have staff, ask the letter to include name, passport number, and role.
Confirm list registration with organizer
The MICE organizer submits the key participant list to the Ministry of Justice. Check with them whether you’re on the list.
Prepare companion docs in advance
If spouse, have English marriage certificate ready; if staff, have employment contract or organizer’s letter ready before departure.
Check fast-track lane after arriving at airport
At Incheon, look for the ‘MICE Fast-Track’ sign at immigration. Show your passport and docs to the staff.
Document check & pass
Officer checks passport, relationship proof, and conference invitation. If they match, you pass quickly.
Docs checklist for arrival day
Check each item. Missing docs may get you denied on site.
