Good to know

What are Emergency Alert Messages?

In South Korea, the government automatically sends text messages to all mobile phones when a disaster or danger occurs. Until now, these were only in Korean, but for the first time — prompted by the BTS concert — they are being sent in both Korean and English.

They appear as pop-ups with a loud alarm sound. Don't dismiss them — read the contents. If you don't understand, call 1345 (Foreigner Information Center) for help in 13 languages.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to watch the concert — can I go without a ticket?
Yes. You can watch for free on large LED screens at Gwanghwamun Square. However, only 100,000 people are allowed inside the crowd management line, and entry stops when density exceeds 3 people per m2. Entry through metal detectors starts at 7 AM.
I live near Gwanghwamun — how do I get home?
Residents within the controlled area can pass through by showing ID. However, vehicles must detour. Walking from Jongak or Anguk station is recommended.
I'm not receiving emergency alerts. What should I do?
Check Settings > Notifications > Emergency Alerts is turned on. Prepaid SIM cards also receive them. If you still don't get them, call 1345.
The terror alert has been raised — is it dangerous?
The current level is 'Caution' (2 of 4 levels) — no specific threat has been identified. This is precautionary. About 15,000 personnel are deployed, with drone surveillance and a bio-terror response team.
